Spend in the Newmarket retail precinct increased by 43%, to almost $198m, in the December 2019 quarter, largely driven by the redeveloped Westfield retail and lifestyle centre.
The Paymark spend data for the December 2019 quarter shows enormously positive results for retailers across a range of categories in the Newmarket retail precinct.
Newmarket is fast becoming Auckland’s leading shopping, dining and entertainment destination, with spend increasing by a whopping 43%, to nearly $198m, for the December 2019 quarter. The number of transactions also increased by a massive 56% year on year, led most notably by a 100.7% upswing in hospitality.
Other categories to report substantial increases in consumer spend include: Apparel & Personal up 29.6%; Department Stores and Leisure up 89.7%; Home, Hardware and Electronics up 13.7%; Fuel & Automotive up 23.9% and Groceries & Liquor up by 21.5%.
The Westfield centre has reinvigorated the Newmarket precinct, with the increase in spend and foot traffic extending to businesses outside of the centre, also showing strong growth of 5.8% versus same time last year.
This world-class retail and lifestyle destination will also soon be home to two premium JCDecaux large format digital screens, offering advertisers the opportunity to reach a diverse and growing audience of high-spending shoppers.
